Love coming up with new ideas and figuring out how things work?

Curriculum developers help create the lessons, activities, and resources students use every day. You might take a complicated topic and turn it into something easier, more interesting, and more fun to learn.

Your impact: Help shape what happens in classrooms. Your ideas can give teachers better tools, make learning more engaging, and help students connect what they’re learning to the real world.

What Would My Day Look Like?

  • Design lessons, activities, and learning resources
  • Figure out the best way to teach a concept
  • Research new ideas, strategies, and educational practices
  • Look at student learning and data to see what’s working
  • Work with teachers to improve lessons and resources
  • Create projects, assessments, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Make complicated topics easier to understand
  • Help connect learning to real-world experiences
  • Review and improve curriculum based on feedback

How Do I Get There?

Many Curriculum Developers begin their careers as teachers and gain experience in the classroom before moving into curriculum and instructional roles. Some also pursue advanced degrees or specialized training in curriculum, instruction, education, or a specific subject area.

High School → Bachelor's Degree → Teacher Preparation/Certification → Classroom Experience → Advanced Degree or Specialized Training → Curriculum Developer

While you're in high school, explore education, technology, writing, design, and the subjects you enjoy most. Try creating a lesson, tutorial, presentation, video, or project that teaches someone something new.
